Job Summary
Perform physical assessments, administer medications, and manage chronic illnesses for incarcerated patients while maintaining medical records in the electronic health record. Provide wound care, emergency first aid, and patient education, including discharge planning, alongside correctional officers in a secure environment. Work full-time or part-time shifts requiring long periods of standing, lifting up to 50 pounds, and physical endurance. New graduates are encouraged to apply, as training is provided for those without prior correctional healthcare experience.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate from a Licensed Practical Nursing program
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Actively state-certified as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
- Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues
- Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information and integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
- Must pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening
- Must have the ability to stand for long periods
- Must have the ability to lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds)
- Must have the ability to bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift
Desired Qualifications
- Be able to obtain BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
