Job Summary
Assistant Coach for Men's Basketball under the Head Coach at Nelson University. Responsibilities include instructing during practice sessions, assisting in coaching during athletic events, planning personalized instruction for student-athletes across in-season and off-season periods, coordinating and facilitating student-athlete development in technical sport aspects, film study, and overall athlete growth; attending professional development opportunities; assisting with recruiting, evaluating high school and junior college players, and maintaining a database for identifying potential student-athletes; ensuring compliance with national, conference, and institutional rules; assisting in implementing the academic program through tutoring and monitoring student-athlete progress to support academic eligibility and study hall; and performing other duties as assigned by the Head Coach.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree is required
- Masters preferred
- Playing experience and/or student assistant experience in respective sport
- High school or 1-3 years intercollegiate coaching experience
- Ability to recruit, coach, and teach student-athletes
- Ability to scout opponents and break down game tapes for purposes of instruction to student-athletes
- Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities
- Ability to communicate effectively – orally, by phone, in person, and in writing
- Ability to use personal computer, social media, and office equipment to enhance relations to enhance teaching and instruction of student-athletes
- Be able to establish and maintain effective relationships with department peers, respective head coach, and student-athletes
