Member Service Estate Specialist

Job Summary
Member Service Estate Specialist serves as the primary point of contact for handling all member service matters following a member’s passing, guiding surviving family members, beneficiaries, and authorized representatives through estate settlement with empathy and professionalism. Responsibilities include verifying legal authority (court-appointed documentation, powers of attorney, executor/administrator status, small estate affidavits), managing deceased member account closures and transitions, supporting Beneficiary IRAs (transfers, payout options, RMDs, tax implications) in collaboration with the IRA consultant vendor, resolving outstanding debts, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, interpreting documents like letters testamentary or administration, collaborating with internal teams (Member Solutions, Lending, Legal/Compliance), and maintaining up-to-date probate and account-titling knowledge. Also involved are documenting interactions, liaising with legal/financial advisors, supporting policy updates, and conducting knowledge sharing or training as needed. Requires a Bachelor’s degree and 3–5 years of relevant experience, strong problem-solving and communication skills, and proficiency with in-house software and accounting systems. The role emphasizes compassion for grieving members and adherence to regulatory requirements while delivering timely service. This is a full-time position based in Dubuque, IA, USA (on-site).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Legal Studies, or equivalent experience
- 3–5 years of experience legal services, financial services, credit union or banking operations, member services, or estate-related account servicing
- Prior experience handling deceased member accounts, estates, trust accounts, or beneficiary-related processes strongly preferred
- Proficiency in computers; ability to learn in-house application software knowledge and the ability to manage various accounting programs and systems
- Demonstrate complex problem solving and strong decision-making skills to solve problems in a timely manner
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to represent the Credit Union in a positive and professional way when dealing with membership, vendors, other financial institutions and other staff members
