Job Summary

Lead a team of kernel engineers to architect resilient Linux and VMware initiator stacks for high-performance storage protocols, including NVMe over Fabrics and Fibre Channel. Drive performance profiling, tuning, and optimization of storage target and initiator stacks while upstreaming code fixes to the open-source Linux kernel. Solve complex low-level SAN congestion, multipathing, and kernel bottlenecks to maximize IOPS and bandwidth, partnering with vendors like Cisco and Broadcom to integrate advanced PCIe and HBA technologies. Own internal Linux kernel maintenance strategies and test automation frameworks to ensure robust validation of supported SAN configurations.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven expertise writing, debugging, and optimizing low-level Linux/Unix device drivers
  • Deep hands-on command of interrupt handling
  • Deep hands-on command of memory management
  • Deep hands-on command of NUMA optimization
  • Deep hands-on command of lock contention analysis
  • Deep technical understanding of SAN architecture and storage protocol stacks
  • Deep technical understanding of Fibre Channel (FC-FS, FCP, FC-NVMe)
  • Deep technical understanding of NVMe over Fabrics (RoCE, TCP, FC)
  • Strong grasp of SAN congestion mechanisms like buffer-to-buffer credits
  • Mastery of low-level diagnostics and profiling tools such as perf, ftrace, eBPF, blktrace, or crash
  • Demonstrated ability to technically steer complex projects from conception to deployment
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor peer engineers
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally with external technology partners
