Job Summary
Lead the architecture, development, and long-term evolution of the company's native Android platform using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose. Design, build, and ship high-quality applications while defining engineering standards, testing strategies, and release processes. Own major product initiatives from technical strategy through production launch, optimizing performance, reliability, and observability. Build reusable components and scalable architectures that support long-term growth, leveraging AI-assisted development tools to improve velocity. Partner with Product, Design, AI, Backend, and Infrastructure teams to deliver exceptional mobile experiences for a global network of experts. Mentor engineers and influence the long-term mobile roadmap while establishing a strong mobile engineering culture.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional Android software engineering experience
- Strong expertise building native Android applications with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
- Experience shipping and maintaining production applications through the Google Play Store
- Deep understanding of modern Android architecture, application lifecycle, testing, debugging, and performance optimization
- Demonstrated experience making architectural decisions and driving technical direction across multiple projects
- Strong software engineering fundamentals with experience building scalable, maintainable mobile applications
- Experience mentoring engineers and helping raise engineering quality across a team
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across product and engineering organizations
- High ownership mindset with a bias toward execution and continuous improvement
- Must be able to work onsite 5 days per week in San Francisco, CA
Desired Qualifications
- Experience leading mobile platform architecture at a high-growth startup or technology company
- Background building consumer-facing, marketplace, or productivity mobile applications
- Experience designing reusable UI component libraries and shared mobile frameworks
- Familiarity with modern Android CI/CD, release automation, and mobile observability tooling
- Experience integrating AI-powered features or intelligent workflows into mobile applications
- Strong product intuition with a passion for delivering polished user experiences
- Comfortable working in fast-moving environments with evolving product priorities
- Interest in AI infrastructure, mobile platform engineering, and developer productivity
- Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar
