Melt Superintendent

Job Summary
Melt Superintendent to lead the melt department in a South Milwaukee foundry, directing daily melt operations, supervising melt supervisors and furnace operators, ensuring safety and quality, coordinating with maintenance, driving continuous improvement, and maintaining materials inventory. Key duties include achieving production schedules, monitoring melting processes for efficiency and cost-effectiveness, adhering to metallurgical specifications, training and developing staff, enforcing safety and environmental regulations, collaborating with quality and engineering teams, and leveraging Lean and ERP/CMMS tools to optimize performance. Requires 5-7 years in foundry melt with at least 2 years in a supervisory role, strong knowledge of induction or cupola furnaces, and a bachelor's or related degree strongly preferred; excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; associate or bachelor’s degree strongly preferred in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Engineering, or related field
- Minimum 5-7 years of progressive foundry melt experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or superintendent role
- Extensive knowledge of melting practices and furnace operations (induction or cupola)
- Strong understanding of metallurgical processes, alloy specifications, and quality control standards
- Proven ability to lead teams in a union or nonunion environment
- Strong safety orientation and track record of a safe work environment
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives a plus
- ERP/CMMS systems proficiency
