Job Summary
Provide patient care activities under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse. Assist patients with activities of daily living, personal care, comfort, and maintaining a safe, clean environment. Maintain AHA Heart Code BLS certification within three months of hire. Prioritize empathetic listening, effective verbal and nonverbal communication, and teamwork. Work varied shifts on a PRN basis as needed. Previous acute or long-term care experience is preferred.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant program OR be listed as having passed CNA competency testing on the Iowa Direct Care Worker registry
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Heart Code BLS
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English
- High degree of empathetic listening, tact and kindness toward others
- Effective verbal and nonverbal communication skills
- Must work effectively as a member of a team
- Technical and critical thinking skills
- Basic computer knowledge
Desired Qualifications
- High school graduate or GED
- May be certified as a medic or Combat Lifesaver (through military duty) or have EMS certification as a base provider
- Previous acute or long-term care experience
