Job Summary
Medium Voltage Splicer responsible for high-quality splicing, terminating, and testing of underground medium-voltage distribution systems (typically 5kV to 35kV) for utilities, substations, and commercial facilities. Performs MV cable splicing using heat shrink, cold shrink, and molded technologies; conducts MV switching operations; interprets electrical schematics/blueprints; executes Megger and VLF/Tan Delta testing; collaborates with foremen and project managers; maintains documentation; ensures proper grounding; adheres to safety protocols (lockout/tagout, PPE, confined spaces); participates in job-site safety meetings; trains apprentices or junior splicers; travel outside of San Diego as needed.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in medium voltage cable splicing, terminations, and testing
- Completion of a recognized electrical apprenticeship program or equivalent field experience
- Proficiency in splicing techniques for PILC, EPR, and XLPE
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E, and utility safety standards
- Experience with Megger and VLF/Tan Delta testing
- NCSCB and/or NECA MV splicer certifications preferred but not required
- Ability to work in confined spaces, trenches, and elevated environments
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel outside of San Diego as needed
