Job Summary
Medior Back-end engineer for Rabobank Growth Accelerator 0-30, focusing on building scalable backend services for Conversational AI in the Rabo App. You design and develop backend systems that enable AI agents to interpret user intent, manage context and memory, and securely coordinate actions with other agents. Responsibilities include designing scalable backend services, integrating AI agents and LLMs with internal systems via APIs, enabling context persistence and tool invocation, and collaborating with product owners, designers, data scientists and engineers to translate customer journeys into reliable backend capabilities. You will work on secure, explainable, and reliable conversational experiences, shaping how conversations are powered, how context flows through systems, and how agents collaborate to deliver trusted outcomes for Gen Z customers. The role emphasizes ownership, customer outcomes, and a hybrid work environment within Rabobank’s Growth Accelerator 0-30 team, contributing to digital banking solutions aligned with the bank’s mission.
Required Qualifications
- Senior- level experience in backend software engineering
- At least 3 years of experience in a similar role
- Backend development using Python and Java
- Designing and implementing REST APIs and integration patterns
- Familiarity with orchestration patterns (e.g. A2A, workflows)
- Experience with AI-agent architectures, including tool invocation, context persistence, conversation state, and guardrails
- Event-driven architectures, messaging platforms, and distributed system patterns
- Security, privacy, and compliance considerations when exposing data to AI agents
- Observability (logging, metrics, tracing) and reliability engineering in AI-augmented systems
- Hands-on experience integrating AI/LLM-based components into backend systems, including prompt orchestration, tool/function calling, and context management
- Experience with distributed systems and API design, and familiarity with event-driven or message-based architectures
- Ideally, previously worked at Rabobank and familiar with backend/integration landscape
- Strong sense of ownership, proactive and quality-driven, architectural trade-offs in complex environments
- Customer- and outcome-focused mindset
