Job Summary
Medication Technician (Medication Assistant) is responsible for administering and/or assisting with prescribed medications for residents in an assisted living setting, under RN/LPN supervision. Duties include verifying resident identity, recording drug details and administration times, observing ingestion or application of meds, monitoring for adverse reactions and vital signs, maintaining medical records, and adhering to community medication policies. The role also involves assisting residents with daily activities (bathing, grooming, dressing, ambulation), providing compassionate care, supporting resident safety and comfort, and helping with basic care duties and documentation under the Wellness Director or designee. The position requires authorization by the state governing authority to assist or administer medications, familiarity with state guidelines for medication assistance in assisted living, and strong organizational and interpersonal skills to support residents’ wellbeing.
Required Qualifications
- Authorized by the applicable state governing authority to assist or administer medications
- Meet requirements of state assisted living medication assistant guidelines
- Experience in medication assistance with older adults (preferred)
- Demonstrates organizational skills
- Mature, pleasant, friendly, and cheerful personality
- Provides care under supervision of RN or LPN
- Adherence to community medication policies
- Ability to document medication administration accurately
- Ability to observe and report adverse reactions
- Provides bed baths, skin care, and routine resident care as directed
- Ability to monitor vital signs as directed
- Maintain electronic medical records and written documentation in compliance with regulations
- May perform or assist with basic resident activities and comfort measures
- May assist with ambulation, feeding, and personal care as needed
- May participate in activity facilitation with residents
- May perform housekeeping duties related to resident care
- Understanding of confidentiality and ethical standards
