Job Summary
Distribute medications to assigned patients on a set schedule while observing individual patients ingesting medicines and reading PPDs in a timely fashion. Deliver medications to designated sites including Detention I, Detention II, Old County Jail, and Carrizales-Rucker, noting special reactions and verifying transport containers. Document time, place, observations, reactions, and patient refusals; initiate emergency precautions for contraindications and notify charge nurses on call. Maintain pharmacy inventory, submit running orders for supplies, and complete monthly prescription drug audits. Establish automated and manual records, file documents, and chart patient results according to established policy. Requires Texas medication aide certification, a valid driver's license, and the ability to exert medium physical effort.
Required Qualifications
- Texas medication aide certification
- Valid Texas Driver's License
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to exert medium physical effort
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects of medium weight (20-50 pounds)
- Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, and perform repetitive motion
- Ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals
- Ability to communicate orally
- Ability to work with exposure to damp/wet surfaces, duty conditions, fumes and odors, and infectious diseases
- Completion of a six (6) month probationary period prior to Civil Service eligibility
Desired Qualifications
- One (1) year of experience performing medication administration and/or patient care work in a clinical setting
