Medical Transcriptionist/Patient Navigator

Job Summary
Transcribes external medical notes into the IHC EHR, ensures accuracy of clinical notes, and maintains HIPAA-compliant records. Provides patient education, assists with health history and risk assessments, closes care gaps, and participates in community outreach and health events. Works with vendors and other staff to connect patients with services, supports culturally and linguistically appropriate care (English/Spanish), and supports population health initiatives. Represents IHC at health fairs and community events while performing medical transcription duties and data entry into the EHR.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree or equivalent in health related field
- Medical background preferred
- Knowledge of medical transcription guidelines and practices
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, signs & symptoms, clinical medicine, surgery, diagnostic tests, radiology, pathology, pharmacology
- Prior experience working in a similar medical position or customer service related position with at least one year working experience
- Fluent in English and Spanish (ability to read, write, and speak) preferred
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Flexibility, initiative, reliability, and creativity
- Excellent customer service skills
- Familiarity with medical computer software and data entry
- Knowledge of & ability to work with the American Indian community & other minority populations
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Ability to function independently and as a team member in diverse environments
- Demonstrated ability to multitask in fast-paced environment
- Ability to carry out responsibilities honestly and professionally
- Preference to American Indian/Alaskan Native applicants
