Job Summary
Receive written requisitions for routine or special laboratory tests and acquire specimens from nursing units or patients using established techniques. Prepare, calibrate, and verify laboratory instrumentation while performing biochemical, microscopic, and bacteriological tests to obtain diagnostic data. Prepare microscopic slides and analyze specimens via manual or automatic equipment to conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses. Post findings to reports or computer systems for supervisor review and notify supervisors of any problems. Maintain quality control programs, manage specimen retention, and adhere to hospital policies and New York State Department of Health requirements. Work every other weekend and holidays.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology
- Licensed by New York State Education Department as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist
- Minimum of one (1) year work experience and/or training specific to the work being done in the area noted above
