Job Summary
Medical Technologist – Laboratory provides independent, supervised laboratory testing and associated clerical/technical functions following established procedures. The role exercises independent judgment in test interpretation, quality control, equipment maintenance, and records, with potential to function as charge/lead technologist, educator, or researcher within the lab. Responsibilities include collaborating with management, assisting in section operations, ensuring proper specimen handling and communication of critical results, maintaining safety and regulatory compliance, and supporting staff development and process improvement. Requires a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, CEUs, NYSDOH licensure per state requirements, and ASCP certification is preferred but not required. May involve holidays, weekends, evenings, or night shifts depending on assignment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution
- ASCP Board of Registry certification preferred or eligible
- 12 CEUs required annually
- New York NYSDOH licensure required for NY state roles; licensure preferred/eligible in PA and NYSDOH preferred for others
- Experience in laboratory settings; ability to troubleshoot equipment and perform quality control
- Ability to supervise/educate staff and assist Lab Manager; potential to serve as charge/lead technologist or educator/researcher
