Job Summary

Medical Technologist - Lab role analyzing and reporting high-complexity laboratory specimens per protocol. Responsibilities include performing accurate testing of specimens, reporting results promptly, following QC procedures, troubleshooting instruments, processing specimens, obtaining blood samples (venipuncture and skin puncture), instructing on urine specimen collection, conducting drug screens, entering orders into the LIS, assisting with training and cross-functional lab duties, and maintaining equipment and calibration. Requires an associates degree and ASCP/AMT certification (or eligibility with certification within 90 days), plus at least one year of general lab testing experience. Fast-paced environment with potential weekend/evening hours and exposure to blood or bodily fluids; strong emphasis on teamwork, integrity, and patient care.

Required Qualifications

  • Associates degree in medical laboratory technology or related field
  • Successful completion of Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) course of study
  • Certification from ASCP or AMT (or eligibility with certification due within 90 days of hire)
  • One year of general laboratory testing experience
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and lab testing requirements
  • Phlebotomy skills with adults, pediatrics, and geriatrics
  • Computer/data entry skills
  • Ability to work at a fast pace and follow procedures
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities
  • Ability to read and follow established procedures
  • Ability to perform phlebotomy and specimen collection (venipuncture, skin puncture)
  • Ability to handle exposure to blood and bodily fluids safely
  • Flexibility for possible evening/weekend hours
  • Safety and quality compliance (QA/QC) practices
  • Ability to train new employees and interns
  • Laboratory maintenance and equipment calibration responsibilities
  • Licensure/Certification: ASCP or AMT certification (required within 90 days if not held at hire)
