Job Summary
Perform STAT and routine moderately and highly complex clinical laboratory testing on biological specimens using manual methods and automated analyzers. Focus on NGS testing for clients while conducting DNA/RNA extraction, PCR-based tests, and internal NGS testing as needed. Report valid and accurate patient results timely and coordinate with physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals to correlate findings and promote test availability. Maintain and optimize testing capabilities through operational support activities. This Molecular Pathology Lab role at Mayo Clinic requires a Molecular Technologist with a Florida license and clinical lab experience. Candidates must work rotating shifts, evenings, nights, and weekends, including on-call responsibilities.
Required Qualifications
- Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology, Medical/Clinical Laboratory Science, or health related field
- Completion of a clinical laboratory training program
- Successfully completed an accredited Medical Laboratory Technologist/Technician program or similar
- Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) certification or equivalent
- Must be capable of producing accurate results under time constraints
- Multi-tasking ability
- Performing in a fast-paced and changing environment
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work closely with others
- Ability to accommodate scheduling adjustments
- Ability to work off shifts
- Ability to work holidays
- Ability to work on-call
- Ability to work weekend work assignments
- One year of experience as appropriate to assigned work area
- Working knowledge of methods, instrumentation, and principles of all testing as appropriate to assigned work areas based on individual departmental competency checklists
- Adequate use of both hands
- Ability to work with arms above shoulder level
- Ability to distinguish color if required
- Ability to work irregular hours (rotating shifts, evening, and nights) as required by work area
- Ability to work around machinery with moving parts
- Ability to work with lasers (Barcode Scanners)
- Ability to work with clinical instrumentation
- Ability to tolerate patient contact
- Ability to work with immunosuppressed patients (i.e., transplant program, Oncology)
- Ability to tolerate occasional presence of chemical vapors from formaldehyde, acids (rarely), bases, and alcohols
- Ability to tolerate exposure to infection hazards: blood borne pathogens, microbiology, and fungal pathogens
- Ability to tolerate skin contact
- Molecular Technologist Florida License
Desired Qualifications
