Job Summary

Lead the laboratory section by performing and overseeing pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical processes to meet turnaround time expectations while serving as a working bench technologist. Manage specimen integrity, troubleshoot instrument issues, and ensure regulatory compliance with CLIA, CAP, and state requirements. Provide day-to-day leadership across Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Microbiology, Molecular, Coagulation, Urinalysis Point-of-Care, and Histology by mentoring staff, coordinating competency assessments, and driving quality control reviews. Oversee equipment maintenance, inventory stewardship, and safety protocols to support efficient operations and continuous improvement in a full-time Lead position.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a relevant science
  • 2-3 years minimum clinical laboratory experience
  • MT/MLS (ASCP) or equivalent registration, or MT/MLS eligible under Medicare laboratory regulations
  • MLT(ASCP) or equivalent registration or MLT eligible under Medical Laboratory regulations
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and respond to urgent clinical needs
  • Visual acuity to read labels, interpret screens, and differentiate colors on tests where applicable
  • Prioritize tasks, manage interruptions, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines
  • Communicate clearly in person, by phone, and electronically
  • Escalate urgent issues (e.g., mislabeled specimens, STAT delays, safety events) promptly
  • Attends all mandatory education programs
  • Can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety and regulatory compliance
  • Appearance is professional, neat, clean, and appropriate for the work environment
  • Wears proper photo identification badge while on duty
  • Maintains confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times
  • Attends monthly staff meetings and participates in monthly rounding process with manager
  • Participates in and completes required department specific education and training programs
  • Can describe his or her responsibilities related to department safety and specific job-related hazards
  • Follows safety and security policies including exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens

Desired Qualifications

  • Baccalaureate degree in a relevant science
  • 2-3 years minimum clinical laboratory experience preferred
