Medical Technologist I

Job Summary
Perform routine and specialized moderate and high complexity laboratory tests on blood and body fluid specimens under minimal supervision. Insure accurate and reliable test results by adhering to a strict quality control program. Conduct instrument function checks, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs according to department policies. Assist the Section Supervisor in resolving equipment problems and oversee the teaching and evaluation of students and new employees. Requires a Bachelor's or Associate degree in laboratory science, one to two years of experience, and precision to evaluate information against measurable criteria. Full-time days shift at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution, or an associate degree in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or meet grandfather requirements under CLIA'88 personnel requirements
- Precision and accuracy to perform Laboratory procedures
- Keen judgment to evaluate information against measurable criteria in the performance of tests
- Visual acuity to read instructions and examine specimens
- Form perception and color discrimination to identify cells and micro-organisms
- Manual dexterity to operate equipment
- expertise with specific Laboratory procedures or Laboratory instrumentation
