Medical Technologist (2nd Shift)

Medical Technologist (2nd Shift) at American Red Cross in Durham, NC. Perform basic and advanced donor and patient tests, interpret results to determine donor-recipient compatibility, resolve compatibility problems, and provide intermediate reference and consultation services to hospitals and transfusion services. Conduct automated and manual test procedures on blood samples; manage receipt, coordination, shipment, and transport of patient and donor blood samples; document supply and equipment problems; manage reagent inventory; recognize and resolve testing irregularities; consult with staff at other medical facilities to resolve complex serologic problems and provide special units to transfusion recipients. May perform manufacturing duties associated with special blood products. Schedule: Tuesday–Friday 1:30pm–12am or Mon–Fri 3pm–11:30pm. Union environment. Required: MT(ASCP) with Bachelor’s in biological science or chemistry; minimum 3 years related experience (or equivalent); MLT(ASCP) with 5 years blood banking experience can be substituted; state license may be required where applicable. Skills include strong written/verbal communication, team-based work, ability to work in a lab environment, and physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
