Job Summary
Perform laboratory procedures to obtain results for providers to utilize in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Execute high complexity, moderate complexity, or waived laboratory testing using advanced clinical instrumentation according to departmental standard operating procedures. Confirms, verifies, and reports testing results independently while monitoring for reasonableness and critical values. Troubleshoots instrument malfunctions, conducts quality control evaluations, and performs required preventative maintenance. Provides clinical orientation and training to new employees or students. Works an evening shift with per diem variable start times, weekend, and holiday rotation.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's Degree as a medical laboratory technician or Specialized Diploma must meet CLIA grandfathered MLT regulations
- Less than 1 year of experience and a clinical laboratory internship
- Demonstrated technical skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific documents
- Ability to read, understand, and speak basic English
- Demonstrated ability to use/learn the computer system, word processing, e-mail, and applicable software programs
- Demonstrated dependability/flexibility in meeting scheduling needs of the department, unit, and hospital
- Ability to apply common mathematical skills
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
- Lift and carry 40-50 lbs
- Frequent to continuous standing/walking
- Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift
- Activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR
