Job Summary
Provide 12-hour night shift coverage (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM) on a medical surgical orthopedic unit, managing patients with conditions such as total knee and hip replacements, COPD, diabetes, wounds, sepsis, and fractures. Coordinate care for patients receiving heparin, IV antibiotics, antithrombotics, and narcotics, while avoiding drip titration. Float to PCU and behavioral health units as needed. Maintain a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio and adhere to self-scheduling with every third weekend off.
Required Qualifications
- 24 months of experience with 3 months worked in the last 12 months
- 12 months of Medical Surgical - Orthopedic Unit experience with 12 months within the last 36 months (3 years)
- Iowa license or compact license
- Must be able to float to additional units and locations
- Must live >50 miles from facility
- 12 months gap required between for Staff at Program: Medical Solutions Plus Program - (Midwest) CommonSpirit Health
- 12 months gap required between for Per Diem at Program: Medical Solutions Plus Program - (Midwest) CommonSpirit Health
- No current placement allowed at Program: Medical Solutions Plus Program - (Midwest) CommonSpirit Health
- Must pass a pass/fail open-book skills exam on Friday during orientation with a minimum score of 90%
- Driver's license required for submission
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
