Job Summary
Provide 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM–7:00 AM) across six units including trauma surgical, neuroscience, oncology, clinical decision, orthopedics, and mixed MS/ortho/urology. Manage patients with complex needs such as CVA, TBI, spinal fusion, joint replacements, and chemotherapy, while performing IV starts, wound care, trach care, and telemetry interpretation every four hours. Float between like units and patient locations as needed. Maintain Alabama or compact licensure, hold BLS and NIHSS certifications, and possess 18 months of medical-surgical experience with recent ICU exposure. Submit to Baptist Health UAB facilities located over 60 miles from residence.
Required Qualifications
- 12 months of experience with 3 months worked in the last 12 months
- 18 months of Medical Surgical Float Pool experience
- Alabama license or compact license
- Must be able to float to multiple units
- Must live >60 miles from facility
- 6 months gap required between for Staff at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB
- No current placement allowed at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB
- Minimum 18 months experience in MedSurg and/or ICU
- Cerner experience required if strictly ICU experience
- Chemotherapy experience strongly preferred
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale)
- Trauma/surgical experience with wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV skills, medication administration/documentation, and escalations
- IV starts, blood draws from central lines, trach care, PEG, NGT, colostomy/ostomy, wound care, chest tube, surgical site care, C-collar, abdominal binders, and restraints
- Trach care, chest tubes, PEG tubes, wound care, drains, foleys, IV starts, and chemotherapy administration if certified
- Telemetry monitoring on hallway monitors and by tele techs on the ground floor
- RNs are required to interpret and confirm telemetry strip readings q4 hours
- Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
- Weekend rotation every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month
- Flexible contract hours: 36 or 48 per week
- 4 week schedule cycle
- No self-scheduling
- Uses Smart Square
- May float to any like unit/patient location: MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds; ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task or limit of 3, ICU-ER/ICU holds
- 2 Charge/Lead references required from within the last 12 months
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Cerner is preferred
- Experience with Epic is preferred
