Job Summary
Medical Support Assistant for the South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS) Care in the Community program, with remote work eligibility within the service area. Responsible for patient access, appointment scheduling, consult processing, referral coordination, and customer service for Veterans. Uses HealthShare Referral Manager, Provider Profile Management System, Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture, CPRS/Microsoft tools, and complies with privacy and information security requirements. Must reside within 50 miles of 7400 Merton Minter Street, San Antonio, TX 78229; on-site support possible if required by workload or VA determination. Regular hours Monday–Friday with fixed shifts; supports coordination with VA staff, contractors, physicians, fellows, and residents.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Basic medical terminology knowledge
- Ability to read, write, and speak English effectively
- Typing at least 50 words per minute
- Basic computer skills and ability to use computerized systems and databases
- Resident of the United States and able to pass/possess required VA clearance
- Ability to work remote or in an office-based environment and to handle confidential information
- Ability to coordinate patient appointments, process referrals, and communicate with internal providers
