Job Summary
Medical Review Officer (MRO) role supporting the Medical Director in overseeing Toxicology - Workplace Services. Responsibilities include leading and supporting physicians and cross-functional staff, reviewing and interpreting drug test results, ensuring compliance with chain-of-custody and specimen procedures, conducting fitness-for-duty evaluations (DOT FMCSA), shaping program strategy and policies, overseeing quality assurance, regulatory reporting, budgeting, and maintaining licensure/certifications. Requires MD/DO with a valid license, MRO and CDME certifications, 10+ years clinical experience including occupational medicine, and 5+ years as an MRO, with leadership and strong analytical and stakeholder-management capabilities. Preference for Occupational and Environmental Medicine certification; candidate ideally based in Kansas City with openness to US-wide remote work. Required Qualifications
- MD or DO with an active, unrestricted medical license
- Board-certified or board-eligible; Occupational and Environmental Medicine certification preferred
- Current Medical Review Officer (MRO) certification (AAMRO or MROCC)
- Current DOT FMCSA Certified Medical Examiner (CDME) certification
- Minimum of 10 years of clinical experience, including occupational medicine
- Minimum of 5 years of experience serving as a certified MRO
- Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills
- Active participation in ODAPC listserv or equivalent professional network
