Job Summary
Medical Records Director (Non-Nurse/HIM) oversees the facility’s medical records management, coding, auditing, and staff education on recordkeeping procedures in line with laws and Life Care standards; serves as Privacy Officer for HIPAA compliance; collaborates with the Executive Director and clinical staff; requires a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) and RHIA/RHIT credentials or an equivalent health-related degree with extensive HIM training; hands-on experience with health information systems, coding (ICD-10-CM, CPT/HCPCS), and compliance; responsibilities include auditing records, maintaining filing systems, ensuring patient rights and confidentiality, and leading department staff while supporting safety and quality initiatives; physical ability to perform lifting up to 35 lbs and participate in an interdisciplinary team.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in health information management or related field
- Credentialed RHIA or RHIT OR degree in health-related field with extensive HIM training
- Experience with health information management in post-acute care
- Knowledge of state and federal documentation, confidentiality, and legal issues related to health information
- Proficient in complex healthcare software systems
- Ability to make independent decisions as circumstances warrant
- Knowledge of medical records practices and governing laws/regulations
- Experience with HIPAA compliance and privacy officer duties
- Ability to audit medical records and ensure documentation accuracy

- Familiarity with ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS coding
- Ability to communicate effectively with physicians and interdisciplinary teams
- Physical ability to lift up to 35 lbs
