Medical Radiation Technologist (MRT)

Job Summary

Operate and maintain all radiology equipment, including fluoroscopy, while performing standard radiological examinations and preparing patients for procedures. Ensure equipment functions correctly by following documented safe operating procedures, practicing effective radiation protection, infection control, and safety techniques. Conduct quality assurance and quality control activities per manufacturer instructions and industry standards, then save and file all images in appropriate medical records. Handle personal and health information in compliance with governing privacy legislation. Maintain BCLS-HCP certification and CAMRT/ACMDTT registration. Work in a collaborative environment with hospitals, insurance providers, and regional health organizations.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of diploma from an accredited Medical Radiation Technologist (MRT) program
  • Active registration with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) and the Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic and Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT)
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP)
  • Experience with fluoroscopy in an operating room environment
  • Must be able to comprehend, speak, read and write English fluently and be understood by others with whom they are in contact
  • Must be in good physical health and be able to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time without resting
  • May be exposed to radiation (within acceptable limits)

Desired Qualifications

  • Recent, relevant experience as an MRT performing procedures in general diagnostic imaging and fluoroscopy
  • Demonstrated competence in radiological procedures requiring independent judgement and initiative
  • Good organization skills and ability to assume responsibility
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with various levels of personnel in an inter-disciplinary environment
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work under pressure
  • Demonstrated problem solving and critical analysis skills
  • Ability to demonstrate tact and courtesy when dealing with patients, staff and physicians
