Medical Office Clerk - Radiology

Job Summary

Greet patients and visitors at the clinic front desk, check them in for encounters, and manage the check-in process including updating records and assisting with forms. Schedule medical appointments, determine patient eligibility, and create appointment schedules in the patient computer system. Answer the main office phone line, screen incoming calls from patients and providers, and forward inquiries appropriately. Retrieve and load x-ray studies on DINPACS workstations for radiologist interpretation and provide patient images upon request. Transport patients to and from the Radiology Department for exams and coordinate patient flow throughout the facility. Perform end-of-day processes to resolve pending appointments and maintain records of treated patients and examinations.

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizen
  • High School Degree or GED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross
  • Must pass TB Test
  • Subject to a background/security investigation
  • Willingness to comply with DHA vaccination requirements
  • Pre-employment drug screening
  • Good personal hygiene and professional appearance
  • Adequate stress management skills
  • Professional and ethical manner
  • Ability to perform long periods of sedentary activity involving intense concentration and repetitive manual tasks
  • Ability to walk, stand, bending, and lifting of multiple files

  • Ability to utilize the MTF automated radiology patient scheduling system
  • Ability to retrieve/load x-ray studies on the Digital Imaging, Network and Picture Archiving Computer System (DINPACS) workstations
  • Ability to screen incoming calls and forward calls appropriately
  • Ability to contact patients, healthcare providers, clinics, and hospitals/DOD installations
  • Ability to relay and receive information regarding the patient's scheduled medical procedures
  • Ability to transport patients as needed to and from the Radiology Department
  • Ability to use proper techniques for transportation of patients
  • Ability to obtain and return transport equipment
  • Ability to use protective devices for patients with communicable diseases
  • Ability to maintain records of patients treated and examinations performed
  • Ability to provide patient images upon request
  • Ability to remind patients of upcoming appointments by telephoning them
  • Ability to provide educational material or show educational videotapes
  • Ability to coordinate patient flow through the department
  • Ability to respond to various inquiries from patients concerning radiological images, dictated reports and administrative matters
  • Ability to refer medical questions concerning the patient's condition or dictated report to patient healthcare provider
  • Ability to maintain ongoing contact with beneficiaries, staff members, and healthcare providers
  • Ability to check in patients for patient encounter
  • Ability to update patient records
  • Ability to assist patients in completion of appropriate forms and question sheets
  • Ability to coordinate diagnostic procedures
