Job Summary
Perform moderate- and high-complexity laboratory testing across hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, microbiology, blood bank, and serology sections while preparing and evaluating specimens. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, review results for accuracy, communicate critical values, and troubleshoot testing issues. Prioritize STAT, urgent, inpatient, preoperative, and outpatient requests, complete quality-control documentation, and maintain accurate patient-testing and laboratory records. Calibrate instruments, prepare reagents, and follow infection-control and regulatory standards including HIPAA. Assist technical supervisors with section oversight, provide training to laboratory personnel, and support reference laboratory processes. Work full-time 12-hour shifts in a Panama-style rotation between day and night shifts at Eglin Air Force Base.
Required Qualifications
- U.S. citizen
- Current Medical Laboratory Scientist or equivalent certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology or American Medical Technologists
- Current ASCP or AMT certification/registration
- Minimum of 12 months of clinical laboratory experience within the previous 24 months
- Current Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Ability to perform moderate- and high-complexity testing independently
- Ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and federal holidays
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in medical laboratory science, medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or a related laboratory science
- Completion of a qualifying medical technology clinical-practice program
- Clinical-practice programs completed after 1974 must be accredited by NAACLS, CAAHEP, or ABHES
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
- At least 16 semester hours of biological science, including microbiology
- At least 16 semester hours of chemistry, including organic chemistry or biochemistry
- At least one college-level mathematics course
- At least two years of post-certification clinical laboratory experience within the previous 10 years as an ASCP- or AMT-certified Medical Laboratory Technician
- Experience performing moderate- or high-complexity testing in applicable clinical laboratory disciplines
- At least five years of clinical laboratory experience within the previous 10 years performing moderate- or high-complexity testing in applicable clinical laboratory disciplines
