Job Summary
Conduct performance and evaluation of complex chemical, microscopic, bacteriologic, immunologic, and immunochemical tests to support disease diagnosis and treatment. Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of body fluids using manual and automated instrumentation, accurately report results, and troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment or ineffective procedures. Maintain laboratory equipment by performing instrument checks, quality control procedures, and calibration. Process reference laboratory requests, register specimens from outside sources, and assist with specimen processing and drawing outpatients. Communicate with physicians regarding callback values and adhere to established turnaround times for routine and STAT tests. Access, input, and retrieve information from the EMR while maintaining ethical conduct and patient confidentiality.
Required Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technician
- equivalent combination of education and clinical experience making the employee eligible to take the registry exam
- Registration by the American Society for Clinical Pathologists within one year of hire
- ability to work independently
