Job Summary
Perform analytical tests on biological specimens including blood, tissues, and other body samples in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner. Determine specimen acceptability through visual inspections or by recognizing abnormal results, and take appropriate actions based on protocols. Conduct quality control for all testing to ensure results meet established ranges before release. Maintain a safe work environment by performing equipment checks, cleaning areas, monitoring temperatures, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment. Provide physicians with quality results using clinical laboratory equipment while ensuring complete patient safety and anonymity.
Required Qualifications
- Associates of Science in Medical Lab Technology
- Completed 60 semester hours (including six hours of chemistry and six of biology) of academic credit from a college or university accredited by a recognized regional or national accreditation agency and have completed a Medical Lab Technician Program
- Completed a 50-week U.S. military medical laboratory training course within the past ten years
- MLT Medical Laboratory Technician Certification or eligible by a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP)
- Two years of technical experience in a clinical laboratory setting
