Medical Laboratory Technician

Job Summary
Perform routine and complex analytical procedures, process biological specimens, and operate instruments within established policies and accreditation standards. Maintain equipment through scheduled maintenance and quality control records, while answering inquiries regarding results and acting as a liaison between the laboratory and healthcare team. Input data into computer systems, ensure accuracy, and provide guidance to co-workers on staffing and technical issues. Complete required continuing education units and mandatory in-services. This part-time night shift role supports the hospital's diagnostic capabilities, requiring ASCP MLT eligibility and clinical laboratory training program completion.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution
- Transcripts showing 60 semester hours from an accredited institution with transcripts indicating 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses
- 24 semester hours of science courses that include 6 semester hours in chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination
- Completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, the CAHEA, or other organization approved by HHS
- at least 3 months of full-time experience across all lab disciplines
- alternate experience route for High Complexity Testing Personnel as detailed in 42 CFR subpart M §493.1489
- American Society of Pathology (ASCP) MLT eligible at time of hire
- certification achieved within one year of hire
