Job Summary
Medical Laboratory Scientist position in UPMC Presbyterian’s Virology Laboratory focused on molecular diagnostics and high-complexity testing. Responsibilities include following procedures for specimen collection and processing, performing qualitative and quantitative analyses, recognizing abnormal results and initiating follow-up, identifying problems with instrumentation or processes, maintaining equipment and performing QC/maintenance, staying current with techniques, and assisting with test development and evaluation. The role may involve first-line supervisory duties temporarily, training of staff and students, and requires a BS degree with MLS program completion or equivalent combination with certification (ASCP or equivalent) and relevant experience. Clinical molecular experience is strongly preferred. Working hours are daylight with rotating weekends and holidays. Licensure/certifications: MLS (ASCP) or equivalent preferred; Act 34 clearances. Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university AND successful completion of an accredited Medical Lab Scientist program
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP or equivalent categorical or MLT certification
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND at least two years experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory
