Job Summary
Medical Laboratory Scientist – Per Diem responsible for performing moderate to high complexity laboratory testing across Chemistry, Hematology, and Immunology, with instrument maintenance and quality control, QA/SOP adherence, specimen collection support, and potential oversight in supervisor's absence. Roles include training staff in laboratory procedures, serving as a primary operator for at least one instrument, assisting with patient flow, phlebotomy as needed, proficiency testing, documentation, and ensuring proper handling and reporting of results in a Capital Region NYOH lab system (Albany area). Travel is described as up to ~70% involvement with in-lab activities and reference-lab coordination as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in medical technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related health care field OR a Baccalaureate degree with major in biological science or chemistry plus required coursework
- Current state license if required
- AMT, ASCP or equivalent certification preferred
- Position is entry level; lab experience preferred
- 4-year degree candidates to take Hematology and/or Chemistry exam after 1 year of training
- Licensure and certification requirements depend on the state
- Bachelor’s degree in medical technology required (grandfathered situations exceptions)
