Job Summary
Conduct routine and specialized laboratory testing, perform phlebotomy, and calibrate equipment to provide diagnostic data. Execute quality control procedures, maintain instrument accuracy, and manage supply inventory while adhering to regulatory compliance and accreditation standards. Independently interpret results, troubleshoot instrument issues, and ensure patient privacy throughout the care process. Requires a Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science, current state license, and ASCP/AMT or AAB certification. Full-time day shift (7 on, 7 off) with flexibility for weekends, holidays, and on-call availability.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical or biological science
- Current license in the state of practice (if applicable)
- ASCP, AMT or AAB generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist OR ASCP categorical or AAB individual discipline certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist ONLY if working in a designated Academic Medical Center facility
- Any incumbents certified by ASCP on or after January 1, 2004, must successfully complete the requirements of the ASCP's Certification Maintenance Program
- Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information
- Proficiency with Windows-style applications and keyboard
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process
- Good analytical and problem solving skills
- Good judgement in performing duties and conflict resolution
- Good interpersonal skills
- Must be able to work a flexible work schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability)
- Must be able to stoop, bend, reach and grab with arms and hands, manual dexterity
- Must be able to stand and sit for prolonged periods of time
- Must be able to travel throughout and between facilities
