Job Summary

Receive and prepare specimens according to standard protocols; perform laboratory tests, calculations, and quality control procedures to support diagnosis and treatment. Calibrate and maintain analytical equipment while conducting phlebotomy as appropriate. Perform, analyze, and record quality control and instrument maintenance, escalating out-of-control results and documenting corrective actions. Adhere to regulatory compliance guidelines, accreditation standards, and safety protocols for proficiency testing. Manage supply and reagent inventory to support cost reduction initiatives. Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adapt communication styles for diverse patient populations. Work a day shift (7a-7p) with a Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science and current ASCP or AAB certification.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical or biological science
  • Current license in the state of practice (if applicable)
  • ASCP, AMT or AAB generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist OR ASCP categorical or AAB individual discipline certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist ONLY if working in a designated Academic Medical Center facility
  • Any incumbents certified by ASCP on or after January 1, 2004, must successfully complete the requirements of the ASCP's Certification Maintenance Program
  • Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information
  • Proficiency with Windows-style applications and keyboard
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills
  • Good judgement in performing duties and conflict resolution
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability)
  • Must be able to stoop, bend, reach and grab with arms and hands, manual dexterity
  • Must be able to stand and sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Must be able to travel throughout and between facilities
