Medical Laboratory Scientist

Job Summary
Performs laboratory tests on patient specimens and provides information for the diagnosis, treatment or prevention of diseases. Maintains records of performance and utilizes independent judgment to generate acceptable test results within quality control standards. May participate in research and development activities and may instruct staff on laboratory procedures and techniques. Works evenings in a part-time role at Fishers Hospital; requires a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related sciences and certification eligibility (ASCP/AMT/NCA or equivalent) with certification to be obtained within 12 months. Maintains knowledge of complex laboratory techniques, equipment, quality control, safety regulations, and data entry; supports independent, multi-tasking work in a fast-paced hospital laboratory.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related sciences
- one (1) year of relevant experience
- Certification or eligibility for board certification by ASCP; AMT; NCA or equivalent certification
- Certification must be obtained within 12 months of employment
- Knowledge of laboratory safety regulations and protocols
- Ability to work independently; handle interruptions and concurrent tasks
- Ability to use computer to enter and retrieve test results
