Job Summary
Medical Laboratory Scientist responsible for receiving and preparing specimens, performing laboratory tests and calculations for diagnosis and treatment, conducting quality control and instrument maintenance, performing phlebotomy as appropriate, and maintaining patient data confidentiality. Must perform duties accurately within established timeframes, adhere to regulatory and accreditation standards, and participate in data collection and performance-improvement initiatives. Requires effective communication, analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to adapt to a healthcare setting with potential exposure to blood and body fluids. The role supports laboratory operations across routine and specialized testing, data documentation, and compliance with safety and privacy policies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical or biological science
- Current license in the state of practice (if applicable)
- ASCP, AMT or AAB generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist OR ASCP categorical or AAB individual discipline certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist
- Maintenance program compliance for ASCP (Certification Maintenance Program) for those certified after 2004
- Proficiency with Windows-style applications and data entry
