Job Summary
Medical Laboratory Scientist – Flow Cytometry (MLS) at Ochsner Health. Performs specimen handling and processing, conducts laboratory tests and calculations to aid diagnosis and treatment, executes quality control and instrument maintenance, and may perform phlebotomy as appropriate. Requires a Bachelor's degree in medical technology/science, active state licensure if applicable, and ASCP/AMT/AAB certification appropriate to MLS roles. Proficient with data entry and Windows applications; strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills; adherence to regulatory and privacy standards; ability to work in a fast-paced clinical lab environment with potential 24/7 scheduling. Emphasizes quality, accuracy, and compliance across routine and specialized tests, including flow cytometry workflows, while maintaining confidentiality of patient information.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical or biological science
- Current license in the state of practice (if applicable)
- ASCP, AMT or AAB generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist OR ASCP categorical or AAB individual discipline certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist (for Academic Medical Center facility)
- Ability to perform routine and specialized laboratory testing, quality control, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting
- Proficiency with Windows-style applications and data entry
- Effective communication and data reporting to clinical teams
