Job Summary
Medical Laboratory Scientist - Blood Bank at Ochsner Health. Responsible for receiving and preparing specimens, performing laboratory tests and calculations for diagnosis and treatment, conducting quality control and instrument maintenance, calibrating equipment, performing phlebotomy as appropriate, and maintaining patient confidentiality. Requires a Bachelor's degree in medical technology or related field, and current state license (if applicable) with ASCP/AMT/AAB generalist certification or ASCP/AAB discipline certification for designated Academic Medical Center facilities. Must have proficiency with Windows applications, strong data entry and communication skills, and the ability to work under regulatory guidelines and performance improvement initiatives. Shift: 7 on/7 off Day Shift; on-site in New Orleans, LA. Equal opportunity employer; travel as needed; remote work restricted by location per policy.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical or biological science. Copy of Transcript.
- Current license in the state of practice (if applicable).
- ASCP, AMT or AAB generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist OR ASCP categorical or AAB individual discipline certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist ONLY if working in a designated Academic Medical Center facility. Any incumbents certified by ASCP on or after January 1, 2004, must successfully complete the requirements of the ASCP's Certification Maintenance Program.
