Job Summary
The Medical Laboratory Assistant supports pre-analytical and post-analytical functions within Essentia Health Laboratories, performing specimen collection and processing, and conducting waived laboratory testing in accordance with accreditation and licensure standards. Responsibilities include venipuncture or capillary puncture, specimen handling, basic laboratory testing, training of new staff and students, and adherence to safety and quality policies. The role emphasizes patient safety, compliance with lab regulations, and collaboration within the laboratory team.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate from Medical Laboratory Assistant Program OR completes an internal Medical Laboratory Assistant training program within 1 year of hire
- ASCP certification (preferred)
- Recent specimen preparation and processing experience (preferred)
- Possession of a valid motor vehicle operators’ license (license/driver's license)
- Knowledge of medical terminology and basic computer skills (preferred)
