Job Summary
The Medical Laboratory Assistant performs pre-analytical and post-analytical tasks to support Essentia Health Laboratories, ensuring patient safety and quality. Responsibilities include collecting specimens via venipuncture or capillary puncture, handling and processing specimens according to testing requirements, and conducting waived laboratory testing in compliance with accreditation and licensure standards. The role may involve training of new staff, students, and other personnel, while adhering to organizational policies and safety guidelines. This position is 0.8 FTE with Day/Eve rotation at St Marys Hospital in Detroit Lakes, MN, US, and requires weekend and holiday coverage as applicable.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate from Medical Laboratory Assistant Program
- Completes an internal Medical Laboratory Assistant training program within 1 year of hire
- Possession of a valid motor vehicle operators’ license
- ASCP certification (preferred)
- Recent specimen preparation and processing experience
- Knowledge of medical terminology and basic computer skills
- Licensure/Certification qualifications: Medical Laboratory Assistant certification (or equivalent) or ability to obtain per licensure requirements
