Job Summary
Perform routine and complex laboratory tests across assigned departments to provide physicians with rapid and accurate results. Assess specimen acceptability, operate laboratory equipment per standard operating procedures, and execute calibration and troubleshooting as needed. Document all actions, maintain inventory levels, and ensure compliance with JCAHO, CAP, AABB, and Medicare regulations. Recognize critical test results and notify clinical personnel per hospital policy. Assist with department inspections, orientation of new employees, and resolution of procedural problems. Work Monday through Friday with weekend coverage, including mixed shifts from 11pm to 7:30am.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution
- Professional knowledge of medical technology principals and methodologies sufficient to perform clinical laboratory procedures
- Ability to endure periods of heavy workload and stress
- Ability to accept constructive feedback and initiate appropriate actions to correct situations
- Ability to coordinate eyes and hands to fingers rapidly and accurately in making precise movements with speed
- Ability to use computer-based systems to record, track, review, and interpret test results
- Minimum one (1) year of clinical laboratory experience
