Job Summary
Perform clinical laboratory test procedures and ensure proper maintenance of instrumentation while exercising professional judgment. Provide patient care essential to laboratory procedures, recognizing conditions requiring immediate action and reporting to providers. Maintain established policies and regulations to enhance patient flow and satisfaction. Interpret routine tests to identify abnormal or critical results and take appropriate course of action. Requires ASCP or NCA certification, an associate degree, phlebotomy experience, and CPR training.
Required Qualifications
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by the Board of Registry of American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or National Certification Agency (NCA)
- Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program that typically results in the acquisition of an Associates degree
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, chemistry, mathematics, hematology and serology at a level normally acquired through completion of an accredited program (National Commission for health Certifying Agencies) with supervised clinical internship
- Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with physicians, nursing personnel and other clinicians while exchanging information to routine inquiries and reporting laboratory results
- Familiar with a variety of laboratory testing procedures to resolve technical problems
- Analytical skills necessary in order to interpret routine tests and recognize abnormal/critical/atypical test results and take the appropriate course of action
- Knowledge and experience preforming phlebotomy
- Ability to travel
- CPR Training
- Must provide record of a completed diploma (or equivalent) or academic transcript for those areas performing laboratory or point of care testing
