Job Summary
Receive and prepare specimens according to standard protocols, perform analytical laboratory tests and calculations, and execute quality control procedures for test performance. Calibrate, maintain, and monitor laboratory equipment while performing phlebotomy procedures as appropriate. Troubleshoot problems with telephone access to a Medical Technologist and maintain confidentiality of patient-related information. Adhere to regulatory compliance guidelines, ensure quality performance, and maintain competency in current federal, state, and local laws. Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including respecting privacy and communicating clearly during procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Associates Degree in medical technology, medical laboratory science, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical or biological science
- military MLT certificate
- Current license in the state of practice (if applicable)
- ASCP, AMT, or AAB certification as Medical Lab Technician
- computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally
- proficiency with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Must be able to lift 20 pounds of force occasionally
- Must be able to lift 10 pounds of force frequently
- Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force constantly
- Must be able to walk or stand to a significant degree
- Must be able to sit most of the time
- Must be able to push and/or pull of arm or leg controls
- Must be able to work at a production rate pace
- Must be able to work in an area where patients enter
- Must be able to work directly with patients
- Must be able to work with specimens that could contain communicable diseases
- Must be able to work with hazardous medications or hazardous waste
- Must be able to receive, transport, store, prepare, dispense, administer, clean and/or dispose of contaminated waste
- Must be able to remain knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements
- Must be able to ensure compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards
- Must be able to report any known or suspected unethical or questionable behaviors or conduct
- Must be able to ensure patient/employee safety
- Must be able to ensure patient privacy
- Must be able to ensure compliance with all compliance-related concerns
