Job Summary
The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) provides laboratory services for inpatients and outpatients, performing both routine and specialty testing with manual and automated methods. Responsibilities include instrument calibration and verification, quality control, troubleshooting, data review, interpretation and follow-up on abnormal results, ensuring safety and compliance with lab procedures, and providing patient-care support. The MLS works to maintain competency across waived, moderate, and high-complexity testing, trains new staff, and participates in education and quality initiatives. This is a full-time position with a PM shift at Lexington Medical Center in Lexington, SC.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree from a national or international accredited educational institution.
- Minimum Years of Experience: None
- Substitutable Education & Experience (Optional): Candidates with current active Medical Laboratory Scientist (MT/MLS) will be considered in lieu of Bachelor’s Degree.
- Required Certifications/Licensure: Actively hold Medical Laboratory Scientist (MT/MLS) certification by the ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) or equivalent state/governmental certification including: NCA, AMT, or AAB. National certification may be at MLS level or a categorical certification in a recognized discipline (chemistry, hematology, blood bank, microbiology). With a categorical certification, practice will be limited to listed categories.
- Candidates without active MT/MLS certification that are registry eligible may be considered but must obtain certification within one year of hire.
