MEDICAL LAB ASSISTANT

Centrifuge, pour off, and prepare blood, body fluid, and urine specimens for routine and high-complexity clinical tests. Perform pipetting techniques, stain peripheral blood smears, load bar-coded specimens on analyzers, and inoculate microbiology culture plates. Prepare specimens for KOH, GMS, PCR, viral cultures, and 24-hour urine containers while documenting corrective actions for deviations. Operate and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, maintain work areas, manage biohazard waste, and process pneumatic tube specimens. Utilize the LIS for patient accessioning, monitor incomplete lists, and communicate sample issues to staff. Act as a resource for phlebotomy if trained, assist in employee orientation, and ensure maximum productivity with minimum carry-over work.
