Job Summary
Provide in-office and phone translations for Spanish-speaking patients, creating bilingual patient care forms and relaying cultural history to healthcare professionals. Conduct in-service training to increase cultural competency for faculty, staff, and residents, while reviewing and coordinating Spanish language resources. Identify healthcare communication issues across the WNC region and coordinate with local agencies and community members to explore translation services. Bridge cultural gaps between patients and providers to ensure informed consent and confidentiality during diagnosis and treatment discussions. Maintain strict patient confidentiality in accordance with MAHEC policies and assist with patient follow-up, including appointment reminders.
Required Qualifications
- Associate's Degree
- Certified Medical Interpreter
- At least two (2) years of Spanish translation experience
- Excellent skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database applications
- Must be fluent in English and Spanish
- Ability to read, interpret, and translate English and Spanish documents
- Lift and carry 25 - 35 lbs
- Push/Pull 50 - 100 lbs (empty bed, stretcher, etc.)
- Regular attendance on-site
- Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (or flexed to best meet the needs of the clients and/or the Division)
- 40 hours per workweek
- Weekend, holiday, or evening coverage
- Work hours will need to be flexible in order to respond to special work assignments, or evening activities, as requested by the team leader
- Flu vaccine or have an approved exemption
Desired Qualifications
