Job Summary
Provide accurate English-to-Spanish and Spanish-to-English interpretation and translation for patients, families, and staff across all SCH services and locations. Convey exact messages regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, and consents without summarization, while answering phone calls and relaying messages to providers and medical records. Schedule, confirm, and reschedule appointments, update the Electronic Health Record, and assist patients with registration, financial forms, and clinical questions across primary care, women's health, pediatrics, and behavioral health. Maintain strict confidentiality and follow all policies. Coordinate language support modalities, build interpreting schedules, and act as the liaison for vendors and training. Monitor patient experience data to implement workflow improvements and collaborate with leadership on technological solutions.
Required Qualifications
- Bilingual – English-to-Spanish and Spanish-to-English
- High School diploma or GED
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality and comply with federal and state privacy laws
- Consistently adhere to and/or exceed SCH communication guidelines and expectations with internal and external customers including co-workers, patients, and external partners
- Possess good listening and communication skills
- Office skills including word processing, data entry, and record keeping principles
- Possess the ability to work in a courteous and professional demeanor with patients, co-workers, and community contacts
- Demonstrate a friendly, patient, and compassionate demeanor when dealing with people, even in difficult situations
Desired Qualifications
- AA preferred
- Experience working as a professional interpreter preferred
- Experience working in a healthcare setting preferred
- Experience with communication technologies such as telephone or video remote interpreting
- Medical Interpreter Certification or Bridging the Gap highly recommended or actively working toward this
- Successful completion of conversation/translation competency testing in secondary language, knowledge of Medical Terminology, and language proficiency test
