Job Summary
Medical Director, Medical Affairs leading external scientific engagement and medical strategy for lupus and broader I&I portfolio with hybrid on-site and remote work (two days on-site per week in Boston, MA). Serve as primary external medical expert for HCPs, KMEs, and investigators; lead medical affairs strategy development, KME engagement, evidence generation, medical education, and advisory board programs; provide medical input to clinical development, regulatory strategy, payer considerations, and market access; collaborate with Field Medical Affairs, Regulatory, Clinical Development, Biostatistics, and other functions; responsible for preparing scientific content, publications, and materials, and representing the function at major congresses. Requires advanced clinical degree (MD/DO) or PhD in immunology, board certification in rheumatology/nephrology/dermatology/immunology or related field preferred, and a minimum of 5 years in clinical or biotech/pharma roles; travel up to 20%+; salary range $266k–$344k with potential bonus/equity. The role emphasizes scientific leadership, external credibility, advisory board oversight, and cross-functional collaboration in a clinical-stage biotech environment.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced clinical degree (MD or DO) preferred or PhD in immunology
- Board certification or clinical training in rheumatology, nephrology, dermatology, immunology, or related specialty strongly preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of combined clinical and/or pharmaceutical/biotech industry experience preferred
- Direct experience managing or advising lupus clinical programs strongly preferred
- Deep scientific expertise in autoimmune disease—specifically lupus (SLE and/or CLE), rheumatology, and/or nephrology—required
- Established KME network within the lupus and rheumatology community strongly preferred
- Demonstrated track record of developing and executing medical affairs strategies, leading advisory boards, driving publication programs, and managing external stakeholder relationships in a clinical-stage biotech or pharmaceutical organization preferred
- Deep clinical and scientific expertise in immunology and inflammation—with primary depth in lupus nephritis, SLE, and/or CLE
- Ability to critically evaluate, synthesize, and communicate complex clinical and scientific literature to diverse audiences
- Experience supporting regulatory strategy and operations from a medical affairs perspective; familiarity with promotional review processes and compliance frameworks governing medical communications
- Prior experience with advisory board design, scientific meeting planning, ISR program oversight, HEOR strategy, and external expert relationship management
- Proficiency in leveraging advanced analytics, data science, and emerging AI-enabled tools to enhance insight generation and medical strategy
