Job Summary
Review provider progress and procedure notes to accurately abstract billable services, assign CPT/HCPCS, modifier, and ICD-10-CM codes, and perform charge reconciliation. Analyze coding-related denials and edit failures to identify trends, implement system edits, and reduce preventable claim rejections. Collaborate with providers and billing teams to clarify documentation, resolve coding issues, and optimize reimbursement while maintaining compliance with payer guidelines. Utilize Meditech and eClinicalWorks to manage work queues and support clean claim performance. Requires CPC/CCS/CIC certification and 2-4 years of professional coding experience.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least 2-4 years of experience in professional coding, medical billing, charge review, denial analysis, or closely related healthcare revenue cycle work
- Strong understanding of CPT/HCPCS codes, ICD-10-CM diagnosis coding, modifiers, and medical terminology
- Experience reviewing provider documentation and abstracting services from progress notes and other clinical documentation
- Experience reviewing and resolving coding denials, including MUE, NCCI/NCCO, modifier, medical necessity, diagnosis mismatch, and documentation-related denials
- Experience with Professional Billing
- Experience with Meditech and eClinicalWorks
- Basic understanding of insurance terminology and payer guidelines
- Coding certification (CPC, CCS, CIC, COC, CBCS, CMC)
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with Meditech and eClinicalWorks strongly preferred
- Experience with Professional Billing preferred
- Experience reviewing and resolving coding denials, including MUE, NCCI/NCCO, modifier, medical necessity, diagnosis mismatch, and documentation-related denials preferred
- At least 2-4 years of experience in professional coding, medical billing, charge review, denial analysis, or closely related healthcare revenue cycle work preferred
